Real Wedding: Lauren & Ethan

Lauren and Ethan’s wedding took place at one of the most spectacular ceremony sites in Colorado, Arrowhead Golf Club.

The stunning mountain views were a picture perfect back drop to their personal, heartfelt wedding that focused on their love and celebrated family and friends. While storms brought rain during our setup, almost as if on queue the clouds parted as the guests arrived. The ceremony took place on one of Arrowhead’s gorgeous lawns as the sun began to set.

Lori from Statice Floral did a wonderful job with the garden-inspired mix of coordinated flowers. Each aisle was adorned with a jar of assorted flowers that delicately added a touch of color, without taking away from the incredible views.

After the ceremony concluded the guests enjoyed cocktails on the patio before entering the reception. Lauren and Ethan love to travel so they tied in this theme to each of there tables – a fun personal touch. Their table cards were pictures of the two of them on their journeys and the tables were named for each of these places.

The escort cards were miniature postcards with the guest’s name and the name and photo of the table where they were seated.

At each place setting Hazel Thornley, from Inky Fingers Calligraphy, beautifully created a hand painted menu card, each with a different flower. This detail enhanced the charming table décor.

Arrowhead staff served a delicious plated dinner. The yummy cake just had to come from Child’s Pastry Shop. Lauren has always been a fan of their frosting! After dinner EVERYONE enjoyed dancing to music by A Music Plus. The DJ did a fantastic job playing songs the whole crowd loved.

When guests needed a break from dancing they had their pictures taken in Magnolia Photo Booth Co.’s photo booth. The props were a huge hit!

Lauren and Ethan’s gift table held a small suitcase which they used for their cards, surrounded by wedding pictures of their families. It was a beautiful way to honor their parents and grandparents. The guests loved to look at these treasured family moments.

Julia Timmer Photography and Mares Video Productions did a phenomenal job of capturing every moment of the wedding.

Real Wedding: Katrina & Colin

Katrina and Colin wanted something different for their wedding celebration. They wanted to have a daytime wedding at a location where their guests would have something to do after the ceremony and lunch reception. The Denver Zoo was the perfect place!

Katrina wore a beautiful dress from Anna Be Bridal Boutique and had spectacular hand painted peacock inspired shoes by Nora Karen.

The carousel was the ideal location for Colin to see Katrina for the first time in her wedding dress. They then toured the zoo for pre-ceremony photos. Kent Meireis and Meghan Russell had fun taking them to the various locations. The zoo visitors had a great time watching the couple (or princess as one little girl said) have their wedding pictures taken.

Katrina and Colin are tea lovers and wanted to have a tea bar instead of alcohol.

In place of toasting glasses they had special animal tea cups.

During the tea reception the zoo provided animal demonstrations.

The zoo’s caterer, Taste of the Wild, made delicious hors d’oeuvres and lunch with a Mediterranean flare. Kelley Farrell created a beautiful and yummy wedding cake as well as a small vegan/gluten-free one for the bride’s father and several of the guests.

Newberry Brothers did a fabulous job with the flowers and decor. The centerpieces, table names and escort cards all had a tea theme.

Favors were little jars filled with loose teas.

It was such a fun wedding!

The Kids Are Coming...

Kids are tons of fun, and can add so much to your wedding. The trick is how to include children and not have it turn into a kids party. Keeping them entertained, and allowing parents to relax can be a challenge. Here are a few suggestions to make sure all your guests, young and old, have a ball at your wedding.

1. GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO DO:

Make sure you have age-appropriate activities. Crayons and paper are inexpensive, and provide an activity younger and older kids alike enjoy. Goal-oriented projects for the wedding couple are wonderful ways for them to feel like they are a part of the celebration. A giant wedding card is a fun idea. Michaels and other craft stores are great places to start. There are also fantastic craft sites on the web to give you unique ideas. We love Miranda Made. She has fun original ideas that you can use at your wedding or other occasions. Just make sure the activities are not only age-appropriate, but gender friendly. The little boys may not want to make a dolly or a ring box. Picking crafts that are unisex is the best way to go.

2. GIVE THEM A PLACE THAT IS THEIR OWN:

If you have a large number of children coming to your wedding you may consider having a separate room just for them. Many venues have areas that can be used for this very thing. Some are set up with TV areas where the little ones can watch a movie and rest while the party is going on. Adjoining rooms are wonderful if they are available, because the kids are close to their parents. This makes everyone feel more comfortable. If weather is permitting, set up an outdoor area for them to play.

If you know in the planning stage that children will be attending your wedding, ask the venues what areas they have used for kids in the past, and whether they provide any children services.

You may also consider hiring a sitter or a children’s entertainer (balloon maker, face painter, magician, or someone to play games with them.) Having someone there to give them special attention not only will help entertain them, but will also enable their parents to enjoy your event more fully knowing that their kids are being looked after.

If these options are out of your budget or if your location is too small, don’t fear – a great kids table at your reception can often do the job. Make a playful table for them. Give them their own special center pieces. These can be your crafts for them. Making sure they have something to do is key. Toasts, cake cutting, and first dances can be a bit boring to the little ones.

3. GIVE THEM FOOD THEY WILL ENJOY –

A kids menu is a must. Not only will most children not appreciate the expensive food you are serving your adult guests – they won’t like it. You can save money having a child friendly menu and they will actually eat the food. If you are having very little ones, consider getting cups with lids. Their parents will love you for it.

When children feel like they are a part of the wedding, not just an afterthought, they will have a ball and so will you!

Lords Of The Rings

A recent couple of ours wanted their nephews to be their Ring Bearers. The two boys were slightly older than the average Ring Bearer and were reluctant to be called this. The boys excitement grew as they learned they would be titled The Lords Of The Rings. The movie was one of the Grooms favorites. This was a personal touch that none of his Groomsmen missed, who also loved the feature films. The Lords Of The Rings walked down the aisle to their own music "Concerning Hobbits" from the movie "Fellowship of the Ring", and presented the couple with their rings in velvet boxes.

Starting Your Life Together On The Right Shoe

Horseshoes have long been a symbol of good luck, fertility and protection. While it is believed that hanging a horseshoe with the prongs up catches luck, it is also believed that by hanging it with the prongs down pours the luck out to those around them. The lore of horseshoes was that they were considered lucky because they were made by blacksmiths (which was thought of as a very lucky trade). If a blacksmith was to marry a couple, their life would be a happy one together. This western inspired wedding was showered with luck as they used horseshoes as their name cards and table center pieces. This is another great example of how to take a symbol of personal meaning to help your wedding have a style and tell a story.

DIY: Wedding Ideas We Love -

Creating a unique wedding that reflects you does not have to break the bank. A recent couple of ours loved books and wanted to incorporate literature into the theme of their wedding. They picked quotes from their favorite authors that were inspired by love and used them as table names as well as adding them to each page of their engagement book. Not only was this an inexpensive way to add personality to their wedding it was a conversation piece for each table.

Real Wedding: Helen & Dan

A few months prior to their weekend wedding celebration Helen and Dan eloped in London. A couple of dear friends went with them.

Helen loves to throw a party. The original idea grew to a 3 day celebration of their marriage with family and close friends from all parts of their lives attending. When Helen first met with me and described what she wanted I knew Crooked Willow Farms was the perfect place. It reminded Helen of her family’s farm in Pennsylvania. Dan, who is an avid fisherman, loved the ponds where he and his guests could fish. Crooked Willow also has a Farm House where Helen and Dan, along with their 2 dogs and several of their friends, stayed for the weekend.

Helen wanted her guests to have a wonderful weekend experience. The weekend started on Friday night with a kick off Welcome BBQ Dinner at the Farm House for family and a small group of friends. Saturday was a day filled with fishing, farm tours, a petting zoo which included the farm’s 1000 lb. pig, Lola, and 2 resident camels, hay rides, build your own picnic lunches, games set on the beautiful lawn, hikes, bike rides, horse and carriage rides and a French wine tasting.

In the afternoon Helen offered beauty treatments of hair (Erin Ferris), make-up (Carissa Passerella) and manicures (Stacy Highland) for her women friends. This was in preparation for a formal dinner party Saturday night.

Jesse Ketter from Design Works did an amazing job with the décor for all of the events. There was a different look every time. Epicurean Catering did all of the weekend’s fabulous food. Helen added lots of ideas. She wanted a Fall feel with food that reflected a harvest – farm to table.

Instead of traditional wedding cake she chose to serve apple pie, in honor of her father whom had passed (his favorite). Epicurean added a unique touch by using small pumpkins for the individual pie tins.

At the end of dinner there was a slideshow with pictures from the actual wedding in London. Table favors included jars of homemade jams.

Kids had their own dinner and activities in a special area just for them. Guests adjourned after toasting to the barn where Lola’s Loft had been transformed by Design Works into an edgy nightclub.

Helen and Dan and their friends love to dance and the band, Boogielicious, was perfect! They also had fun in Crooked Willow’s photo booth. Late night snacks were passed as the evening progressed. When the party finished no one wanted to leave.

To top off the night they went outside for build your own s’mores and hot beverages by the fire pit.

Some of the guests chose not to stay at the nearby hotel but rather decided they wanted to camp on Crooked Willow’s property. We had brought in units each with their own toilet, sink and shower so the campers could be comfortable. On Sunday morning the campers woke up to a surprise of juice and muffins left outside their tents.

Sunday morning Epicurean had prepared a delicious brunch and Bloody Mary bar. Design Works had completely changed the look of the room.

The afternoon had more planned activities and good byes to family and friends. A small group stayed for one final event – a fish fry dinner with fish that had been caught over the weekend. Frances Marron (photographer) and Lisa Mares from Mares Video Productions captured this amazing weekend.
